The reissue of a studio legend

The DT 770 PRO X is Heilbronn-based audio specialist beyerdynamic's way of improving on the qualities of their legendary DT 770 PRO. After they were brought to market in the mid-1980s, it didn't take long for these classic studio headphones to quickly become the industry standard, and they are still used today in countless studios around the world thanks to their excellent sound insulation, their comfort and wearability, and their powerful, detailed sound. Needless to say, the new model offers numerous improvements that set it apart from the original, including the latest driver technology, a plug-in connection cable that – according to beyerdynamic – the user community has long been calling for, and even better wearability.

Interstellar warp drive

The internal workings of the DT 770 PRO X feature highly efficient Stellar.45 drivers, which have been in use in the DT 700 PRO X and DT 900 PRO X studio headphones since 2021. They enable extremely high-quality, powerful sound reproduction with a remarkable frequency response of 5Hz to 40kHz. The detachable cable is connected to the headphones using a lockable three-pin mini XLR plug and, with a length of three metres, offers sufficient flexibility for almost every imaginable activity. In addition, beyerdynamic has revised the padding of the headphones, and designed a special recess in the headband so as to protect particularly sensitive areas of the head – meaning the headphones can be worn for hours without discomfort. As with all beyerdynamic studio headphones, the headband and velour ear pads of the DT 770 PRO X can be replaced as required.

Hand-made German quality

Professional recording, mixing, mastering, and live monitoring – these are the exacting fields in which the DT 770 PRO X from beyerdynamic can really showcase its strengths. But these closed studio headphones won't just excel in the studio; they also offer real studio-quality sound on mobile devices such as laptops or tablets thanks to their low impedance of 48 ohms. Like the earlier models, the new X version is also characterised by its firm fit – without ever pinching – and can now be worn for longer and with greater comfort thanks to the extraordinary attention to detail that has been paid to making improvements in the padding. The fact that the workmanship is, as always, beyond reproach need hardly be mentioned: Like all beyerdynamic studio headphones, the DT 770 PRO X is manufactured in Germany and assembled by hand. And it should also go without saying that they are ideal simply for enjoying listening to music.

About beyerdynamic

beyerdynamic was founded in 1924 by its namesake Eugen Beyer in Berlin and initially manufactured loudspeakers for film palaces before making a huge impact on the sound engineering industry in 1937 with the development of the first pair of dynamic headphones, the DT 48, followed in 1939 by the first dynamic microphone, the M 19. After World War II, beyerdynamic moved its headquarters to the German town of Heilbronn, and today has locations in the US town of Farmingdale, New York State, as well as in Shenzhen, China. The company’s most popular products, a large proportion of which are still manufactured in Germany, have always included headphones and microphones for both live and studio use, and a wide selection of audio equipment for gamers and streamers is also on offer, particularly headsets for broadcast and gaming applications.

770 PRO? 700 PRO X? 770 PRO X?

To relieve users at least a little from the agony of choice, here's a quick explanation of the differences between the models: Compared to the DT 700 PRO X, the sound tuning of the new DT 770 PRO X is closer to that of the original DT 770 PRO, as well as borrowing more from its predecessor's iconic design. The 700 PRO X, on the other hand, has a rather more modern design and also features a more linear acoustic signature. When the special edition is compared with the classic DT 770 PRO, the anniversary model scores points for its detachable cable, new-and-improved wearing comfort, extended high-end frequency response, 2dB of extra sound pressure, and a lower distortion factor – in other words, even better sound fidelity. The DT 770 PRO X comes with a 3m cable, a screw-on 3.5mm-to-6.3mm jack adapter, and a drawstring pouch.

Logisches Upgrade vom DT 770 Pro (Non X)
Thoringer 12.05.2025
